3 months ago today I was in LA on vacation from my job at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene, Oregon when I learned I was accepted into the New York Academy of Art. Today I live in Brooklyn, New York and THIS IS MY FIRST DAY AT THE ACADEMY!!!
I rode a CitiBike into Manhattan, found my studio and met my studiomate. I also met some of my FaceBook friends. It was good to already have that connection. We had a full day of orientation where we met the staff and full-time faculty. My mentor generously took time to show me the neighborhood so I know where-to-get-what, and then The Academy through a party for the NYAA Fellows' Opening. The gallery was packed with artists and art investors for 2 hours and people were still gathered outside after the doors had closed.
This is definitely a place where art is happening at all levels.
